Most mini zen gardens start with a brand-new container. This one started with the opposite: a basin nobody wanted, cracked along one side with a broken-out drainage hole. That "flaw" became the project's biggest advantage — an instant drainage point that didn't need to be drilled.

Materials used: upcycled ceramic wash basin, potting mix/coco peat, wooden popsicle sticks, jute rope, thin gold wire, white pebbles, grey crushed gravel, a small resin Buddha statuette, and a mix of houseplants (Cordyline, bamboo-style stalks, variegated Aglaonema, asparagus fern, trailing Syngonium and Caladium).

Steps:

1. Fill the basin with potting mix, working around the existing crack and drainage hole.
